Letterpress : : Thermography : : Flat Printing
Letterpress
Letterpress is a form of printing that involves creating an image in reverse on a plate (or setting actual metal type) and pressing into paper. Each separate color requires its own printing plate AND a separate pass through the press. For small batch printing, as most wedding invitation suites are, each printed piece is hand fed into the press. Letterpress is a very labor intensive form of printing but one of the oldest and most beautiful. No two pieces will be exactly alike.
Thermography
Thermography is a printing process that results in a raised image on paper. Paper is treated, then a powdered ink is applied. The powder is then heated causing it to harden and rise. Thermography can be an economical substitute to the most expensive and most elegant type of printing, engraving.
Flat Printing
At CryBaby Ink, all flat/digital printing is done on a commercial laser printer. Flat printing is the most economical type of printing and does not require additional passes through the printer in order to add colors. Flat printing offers the most flexibility, but least dimension. |
